- [Temporary Studio Closure](https://paintedtonguepress.com/temporary-studio-closure/): We are closing the studio due to the mandatory shelter-in-place affecting our area; our Etsy store will be closed as well. We will reopen on April 7th or when the order is lifted. It’s important during this time to stay connected to each other (though not in person!), check in on your neighbors, people who may need extra assistance with getting food and supplies, and people who live alone and may experience a greater sense of isolation. - [Kala Artists' Annual Exhibition](https://paintedtonguepress.com/kala-artists-annual-exhibition/): The Artists’ Annual Exhibition at Kala Art Institute is open to the public! Featuring works from a myriad of artists, including our own Liz McCall, the show encompasses printmaking, painting, and digital art and photography. While the opening reception was December 5th, the show is open through February 29th, 2020. Kala is a long-standing staple of the print community in Berkeley, CA, and visiting their annual show is a great way to see new works by contemporary artists. The gallery is located at 2990 San Pablo Avenue, in Berkeley, CA. You can find more information here.
- [Embossing With Makeready at the CJM](https://paintedtonguepress.com/embossing-with-makeready-at-the-cjm/): The Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco is using our makeready for an embossing and collage project this weekend. The project will use embossing plates with different designs as pictured above. The back of the card is rubbed with wax and then an embossing tool is used to run over the waxed surface with the embossing plate underneath the card. The wax helps make the paper smoother so it is easier to run the embossing tool over it. - [New York Now](https://paintedtonguepress.com/new-york-now/): This weekend Painted Tongue Press is participating in New York Now, through our rep Pamela Davis of daisyd & friends! New York Now is the largest wholesale trade show in America, with over 400 companies and makers featuring handmade work. The trade show runs Saturday, August 10th, to Wednesday, August 14th. - [New Original Ink Drawings](https://paintedtonguepress.com/new-original-ink-drawings/): We now have new original ink drawings by Kim Vanderheiden available for sale! These drawings are the first steps to creating the greeting card line. Kim begins by drawing with pen and ink directly on the page, combining spontaneity with carefully considered drawings. The illustrations are then scanned and colored in Photoshop, and then synthesized using InDesign to make the designs seen on the greeting cards; the drawings in Kim’s sketchbook are often whimsical compositions with different components of the cards on each page. The plate on the press bed is for the Maidenhair Fern card.   The paper is fed over the cylinder so the ink on the plate prints onto the paper; the rollers ink the plate simultaneously.     The Maidenhair Fern card is one of our most popular sympathy cards and features a beautiful maidenhair fern in teal.
